High School Football Coverage Guide – Week 6

Week 6 of the high school football season is upon us.  It’s hard to believe, but come Saturday morning we’ll only be a day into October and the prep regular season will already be two-thirds complete and the playoff picture will begin to come into focus.  Before I get to some of the highlights from tonight’s coverage, there was a big Class 4A game in Cedar Rapids last night, as Iowa City High throttled Cedar Rapids Washington 31-0 in a battle of Top 10 teams.  You can find recaps of that game on the Cedar Rapids Gazette’s prep site and video highlights are available from KCRG.  The win is City High’s twentieth in a row, and combined with their win over Xavier two weeks ago, makes the Little Hawks one of the favorites to come out of eastern Iowa in Class 4A.  That said, City High, Wash, and Xavier each still face Linn-Mar, so there is still a possibility of some movement in the MVC standings.

Now, onto tonight’s action.

It’ll be tough to hide my disdain for the color purple tonight.

–  For the first time this season, I’m actually staying here in the Key City tonight.  I gave a lot of thought to heading off to the Aplington-Parkersburg/Dike-New Hartford and North Tama/Postville contests, but eventually decided to walk over to the Rock Bowl to see Wahlert host Cedar Falls.  I’ve already seen three of the top teams in Class 4A (Dowling, City High, and Xavier), so I’m curious to see how CF compares.  They’ve been the highest rated team from the MVC for most of the season, so we’ll see if they are deserving of those votes tonight.

–  Speaking of eastern Iowa games, the Cedar Rapids Gazette has picked out tonight’s top nine games on this side of the state.

–  The Waterloo Courier has a rundown of a few of the games in the Cedar Valley tonight, as well as a more in-depth look at the aforementioned matchup between A-P and Dike-New Hartford.

–  The Des Moines Register takes a look tonight’s games in the CIML, where Dowling-Ankeny is arguably the marquee game.

–  The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald also has previews of and predictions for this week’s Tri-State area games.

Television
– KCRG has pegged as their Game of the Week. Tonight’s edition of “Friday Night Lights” will also feature highlights from the following games:
North Tama at Postville
Cedar Rapids Jefferson at Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Iowa City West at Cedar Rapids Xavier
Center Point-Urbana at Marion
Camanche at Iowa City Regina
North Fayette at South Winneshiek
Benton Community at Williamsburg
Cedar Falls at Dubuque Wahlert
Starmont at North Linn
Waterloo East at Cedar Rapids Prairie

– I couldn’t find a full rundown of the games that KWWL will be covering tonight, but I can tell you that Aplington-Parkersburg at Dike-New Hartford will be Channel 7’s Game of the Week.
